Tyler Magnus
Team Roper
Tyler Magnus grew up on a ranch in Kansas and started riding and roping at a young age. He won his first belt buckle at the age of 5.
Magnus showed horses in the timed events at youth quarter horse shows and competed at local jackpots and rodeos. Magnus qualified for and competed at the National Youth Quarter Horse Finals several years, winning many honors. As he continued to attend quarter horse shows around the country, Magnus worked his way through the rodeo ranks. Magnus started his roping career focused on heading and competed as a header in the National High School Rodeo Finals from 1979 to 1982 and in the National Intercollegiate College Finals rodeo in 1983 and 1984.
In 1985, Magnus got his PRCA card and started heading on the pro circuit. In 1987 he switched to heeling in the PRCA. He qualified for his first NFR in 1988 and also won the Texas Circuit that year. Magnus has qualified for the NFR nine times and is the 1995 NFR Average Champion. His career earnings total $659,843.
Magnus continues to show horses at quarter horse shows around the country as well as at the World Show. He is well respected in the equine industry as one of the top horsemen and instructors in the country. He trains horses and conducts many schools and private lessons each year around the country and at his home in Llano. Magnus has also completed a video called “Training to Win,” which focuses on horsemanship, a key factor in roping successfully. Also, Magnus gives private lessons at his home and has head and heel horses that he sells.
Magnus believes in taking good care of animals for optimum results. Purina feed is an important part of the overall care of his animals, and he is proud to be part of the Purina team. Magnus feels blessed to be able to work in an industry doing what he loves – roping.
