Monty Joe Petska
Team Roping (Heeler)
If Monty Joe Petska's name sounds familiar, it's probably because he's been a Team Roper in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association for more than 20 years. In 2005, he won the Norco Mounted Posse Rodeo (with Jake Stanley) and the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo (with Tanner Bryson), both in California. In 2004, with partner Turtle Powell, Petska won both the tour round at Clark County Fair and Rodeo in Logandale, Nevada and the Pace Picante Pro Rodeo Classic in Dallas. In addition, he placed fourth out of 10 rounds at the Wrangler NFR.
In all, Petska has qualified for the Pace Picante Series 10 times and for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo nine times. Other career highlights include 2003 wins at the St. Paul (Oregon) Rodeo with J.D Bacon and at Clackamas County Fair and Rodeo (Canby, Oregon) with Turtle Powell. In 2004, he qualified for both U.S Smokeless Tobacco Co. Cup Finales, becoming the only team roper to reach the first six finales (2000-2002). He also won the Ellensburg, Washington Rodeo (with Frank Graves). This placed Petska 13th in the world in 2004.
In his career with the PRCA his earnings stand at $ 1,047,820. When he is not traveling across the country, Petska and his wife, Kathy, reside in Turlock, Calif.
