PURINA MILLS DEDICATES PROGRAM TO HELP HORSE OWNERS KEEP THEIR ANIMALS HEALTHY
Purina Mills to host Horse Health Fairs in locations across the country
ST. LOUIS-With horse ownership on the rise, millions of Americans have become aware of a fact that equine experts have known for years -- horses can be high maintenance animals. With that bit of information in mind, Purina Mills decided it was time to lend a hand to horse owners, old and new. The result is the Purina Mills Horse Health Fair.
Long recognized as a pioneer and leader in equine nutrition, Purina Mills staffers were looking for a new, fun way to provide health and nutrition information to the public, when they came up with the idea of hosting a “fair.”
“We didn’t want this to turn into just a lecture,” said Chris Goodwin, Purina Mills Marketing Manager. “We wanted to create something people would enjoy, with a variety of speakers and activities to keep the fair fun and interesting. After all, the Horse Health Fair is about having a good time and getting good information.”
The Purina Mills Horse Health Fair gives horse owners opportunities to learn health and nutrition tips from regional and national equine experts. Hosted by Purina Mills dealers across the country, each event is designed to provide a fun, interactive environment where horse owners can share experiences and their love of horses, while learning to better care for their animals. A growing number of Horse Health Fairs feature local AAEP Veterinarians, as well as equine specialists from Purina Mills. By including local horse experts, topics of local interest can be added to the events, so everyone in attendance can get the information that matters most to them.
For horse lovers who can’t make it to one of Purina Mills Horse Health Fairs, there’s another way to get information and learn from some of the brightest minds in the equine world. On October 1st, the Purina Mills team of equine Ph.D.’s, Doctors Mary Beth Gordon, Karen Davison and Randel Raub will appear on RFD-TV’s “Monday Night Live.”
“Last year, “Monday Night Live” was a real hit for us,” said a smiling Goodwin. “It gives people a chance to call in and talk about how to improve their horses’ lives. There’s never a dull moment.
And the conversation can swing anywhere from health to nutrition to feed management to just about anything imaginable.”
Horse enthusiasts are encouraged to look for the Horse Health Fair nearest them at horse.purinamills.com. The horse branch of the Purina Mills website will carry a full calendar of events, listing dates, times and venues.
When summarizing her thoughts about the Purina Mills Horse Health Fair, Goodwin simply stated, Horse ownership can bring a lot of joy in your life, but it also requires a lot of responsibility and good problem solving skills. Fortunately, there’s now a place where many of those problems can be solved. And solved for free.”
Founded in 1894, Purina Mills, now part of Land O’Lakes Purina Feed, is recognized as the world leader in animal nutrition. Purina Mills feeds over 1 million horses every day, as well as a host of other animals ranging from domestic livestock to wild birds and deer to zoological animals.
